I have a friend who lost a part of himself when he lost her.
She was the missing part in the storybook that he'd been trying to write,
But I've learned that first drafts don't end up the way we always hoped they would.
Just look at me I'm mixing metaphors like they're just party drinks.
But when you’ve had enough it all begin to taste the same, I think,
And I can’t stare in one direction long enough to walk a line.
Oh, she was drinking with her sister and her friends like she belonged,
And that’s all that anyone has longed for on this earth all along.
We keep trying to get back, but it never feels the same.
Is it you or is it me? Is it someone or something?
Is it anything at all or is it all just in my head?
Like you said a word too many times and now it sounds so strange.
It sounds so strange, it sounds so strange, it sounds so strange...
Sometimes It’s hard to figure out where I have been and where I’m going,
I just wish I hadn’t started writing this here song in pen;
I know I’m not alone but I have made my share of mistakes,
A spot of ink or crossed out word must show on every single page.
I’ve counted sheep, but nothing ever seems to help me fall asleep,
I’m wide awake some nights reliving all our antiquated fights.
Here’s hoping images will show themselves if I stare long enough,
Some doctors say that what you see will tell you things about yourself.
We keep trying to get back, but it never feels the same.
Is it you or is it me? Is it someone or something?
Is it anything at all or is it all just in my head?
Like you said a word too many times and now it sounds so strange.
It sounds so strange, it sounds so strange, it sounds so strange...
